Mobile Technology Empire, launched a new iPhone application called ClearCam. ClearCam became one of the largest online applications to hit iPhone users. With ClearCam in full force on the market, Occipital engineers continued to work diligently with their innovative ideas and developed the bargain shoppers dream. They call it the RedLaser.

The Redlaser is a unbelievable iPhone application which allows you to scan UPC barcodes (Also know as Universal Product Codes). Yes, it’s true, you’re iPhone can read barcodes. You can scan almost any UPC barcode in any store. The Redlaser gives you all the proper information associated with the particular barcode you scan. You can check online prices for different CD’s. You can scan movies at your local video store and beam them to your TiVo. You can scan a novel and check its reviews. You can also scan your favorite orange juice and add it to your grocery list. This is pure UPC barcode technology at its best. We’ve come a long way since the invention of the UPC code.

The RedLaser can also be used internationally. When Occipital first came out with the application, it only worked on UPC Codes (which are mostly found on product in the US & Canada). The app was unable to read ISBNs (which are located on books) or European EANs ( 13-digit codes instead of 12-digit codes like the UPC). After a bit of finagling with the application their engineers were proud to announce just two weeks later updates had been made. RedLaser 2.2, realtime mode now supports EANs (European Article Numbers) and ISBNs ( International Standard Book Number). It also reads curved barcodes, which is a big plus.

A few of the great new features and updates on the Redlaser 2.2 are:

1. Realtime scanning for EAN (European Article Number) and curved bar codes.
2. Photo Scan is now gone because it’s not needed.
3. Increased speed and less memory usage.
4. Emailing occurs within the app and their is no need to exit like before.
5. The Email contains an attachment with a list of barcodes for import into other software.
6. The is an added “Clear” button to quickly start a new list.
7. Setting to turn off auto search allows a quick scanning of several products to email or search later.
8. Manual Entry Support for 6-8 digit UPCs (Universal Product Codes) and 8 digit EANs (European Article Number). It is unfortunate but these codes seem to be ones you are not able to scan currently with the app. Technically, these codes are on the out and out. They were used initially by with Universal Product Code Standards but currently they are very rare.

The Redlaser application also is networked up with Google Product Search. Once the Redlaser Application scans a particular barcode you can simply click on google product search and voila more information for your liking.

Word in the technology streets is the Occipital’s engineers are working diligently on a couple new products. Technology Geeks can’t wait to find out what.

The RedLaser SDK supports iPhone OS 3.1 and higher. It will also work on the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, and any other devices which may come on to the market that are similar. You can simply download your application for a $1.99 on the iPhone Application Store www.apple.com/webapps. It’s fast, painless, and only take around ten minutes to download.
