Tricks Moving Scam Professionals Will Use To Cancel Binding Agreements – Part 7

This article is the seventh in a series of reports on tricks fraudulent moving companies use to void the original cost agreements, and thus overcharge the consumer.

In classic moving scam, the unscrupulous moving company will offer a low moving cost estimate, more often than not, without ever seeing the items to be moved.
Once the household belongings are loaded onto the truck, the trouble starts, and the poor victim finds out that the cost is now double or even triple, the original agreed on fee for the move. While more and more consumers studying the moving regulations before their move, they are hard pressed to stand up against the tactics of clever moving company scam artists, who study the loopholes in the law, every day, and are constantly looking for new ways to void the “binding agreement,” and increase the moving cost.

I have already mentioned in earlier articles in this series how movers study their customer looking for weaknesses that can be exploited. The following story, found on an Internet anti-moving scam site, is an extreme example of how movers take advantage of weak customers to change the moving contract at the last minute. As described in the words of the victim” The men came when I was at work and my disabled son, who was fast talked and did not understand the “new terms” of the contract, signed the paperwork.

They added an additional $50 for the items, and they DID NOT take all of the items which I had on the list. In fact, my estimate for 20 boxes was actually 17, yet they charged me more money and did not take items that were on the list/contract to move (ladder, television, etc.).” Once the original guaranteed contract was voided, the movers could add any additional costs they saw fit to add, and did substantially increase the cost of this move. It is tempting to believe that this opportunity for the unscrupulous movers opened up by coincidence. However, in truth, unscrupulous movers look for any opportunity they can find to exploit their victims. No doubt if this victim apologized for not being able to be at the house in person, to receive the movers, the movers very kindly told her not to worry about it and they would be happy to explain everything to her son, with the slight disability.

An excellent way to protect your self from clever manipulative scams is to employ the services of a packing company. Packing Service Inc. is a name you can trust in the packing service industry.
