“DTI aims that through uniting agencies, we help develop our businessmen’s way of life” stated Vedastito C. Galves, Development Specialist of The Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

“We noted that most of our clients do not have clear directions as to what agencies they need to visit for the necessary documents required for setting up a business, for example,” he said.

Galves stressed that through the center; clients can ask, inquire and do business transactions minus the hassle. It saves clients’ time, effort and money in getting documents from different offices.

He said that NEBRAC is a nationwide project where the province houses in one venue the government and private sectors who will work together to give services for the public. “Businessmen and entrepreneurs won’t have to go to different agencies to register or export their businesses. NBRAC is a center open to all for services such as business name (BN) registration, exports documentation or national and local incentives availment,” Galves added.

He further stated that the establishment of National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center (NEBRAC) is one of DTI’s major plans for 2010 in the province. DTI is planning to launch NEBRAC in the province on late June or early July this year, during the week-long celebration of Araw ng Davao del Norte.

“We are to tap with different agencies in the province like DOST, TESDA, SSS, PAG-IBIG and BIR to provide faster access and assistance to our entrepreneurs. DTI will set meetings, orientations among these provincial offices to make them united,” he said.

Moreover, DTI is currently planning to set up a Pasalubong Center in the province. Galves said that the proposed venue for the pasalubong center is within the provincial government in Mankilam, Tagum City.

“We want that our place will not be known for tourist spots alone but with our local products too,” Galves said when asked on the main goal of the project.

He said that Pasalubong Centers is an extension of DTI’s major program, One Town, One Product-Philippines (OTOP-Philippines). “Our province is popular for its banana chips production. Through this pasalubong center, we can promote Davao del Norte to our visitors coming from different places,” he added.

He said that identification, promotion, and development of the province’s finest product and service is a way to greater progress.

“Like in Davao Norte, Davao City is also known for its banana chips, processed and fresh mango for Davao del Sur, gold and silver jewelry for Compostela Valley, and coconut for Davao Oriental,” he said.
