Jack and Jill sat at the kitchen table eating breakfast and looked into each others eyes and thought about what had just happened. They sat there and waited for their daughter. You see, Jack and Jill were just your average couple. Even though they would never achieve the finer things in life and even though they would probably never be able to travel the world and live their dreams like the people they saw on TV, it was ok, because they had true love (and that’s all that matters). Suddenly, in walked their 10-year old daughter, Janice. She smiled. They smiled. They were really in love with their daughter. She was beautiful. She immediately took their minds off of the conversation they had just had. She was so young, so innocent, and so pure. She sat down at the table:

Janice: Mom… Dad…, you wanted to see me?

Jack: Janice, we need to have a talk.

Jill: Yes, Janice. We had a talk with your teacher Mrs. Cage today. She told us that you are EXTRAORDINARY! But she also told us that sometimes you don’t sit still and pay attention. Sometimes you seem to be in a dream world.

Janice: Yeah, I know. I hate that stupid class! I don’t see what any of that stuff has to do with me! I’m just not interested! I just wanna do something fun!

Jack: Janice, I know how you feel. I felt that way as a child also. Listen Janice, me and your mother love you so much. And we want you to have a better life than what we have now. We’ve already gone through what you are about to go through. That’s why we have to tell you this. I know that you want to be free to do the things you want, but you have to look to the future. You need to get good grades in school now. That way you can get into a good college. Then you can get a good education so that you can get a good job! I know that may be difficult to understand, but you will when you get older.

Janice: Yeah, okay.

Jill: Janice, it’s not that we don’t want you to enjoy your youth. As a matter of fact, you will have to enjoy it, because when you get older, it’s over. Your father and I just want you to have a good life, okay?

Janice: Okay. I understand.

Janice walked back to her room rolling her eyes. Deep down inside, in her inner being, she felt like something was wrong with what her parents had just told her. It wasn’t that she was lazy and didn’t want to learn or be educated, it was just… Something was just… wrong! But she thought to herself “My parents know best.” Even though she didn’t show it, she had a lot of love for her parents. She was glad that they cared for her so much. She turned on her radio, sang and practiced her dance moves.

* Some type of battery operated radio or TV – hard to keep up on

me I know.)

* Candles,

* Matches and disposable lighters.

* Battery-powered space heater.

* Flashlights and extra batteries.

* Canned goods and dry food mixes.

* Water and juices.

* Extension cords, long enough to reach your neighbor’s house.

* Any hand tools you might need hammer,
* screwdriver.

* Extra blankets.

* First-aid kit

* Fire Extinguisher

* Some type of backup power supply or emergancy generator, especially if you need electricity for medical purposes.

2) Do what you can to stay warm and try not to get wet.

* Wear multiple layers in cold climates, and keep your head covered to

stop loss of heat.

* Do not turn on a gas stove for heat.

* Buy space heaters that automatically shut off if they are moved or fall over.

* Put extra blankets or sleeping bags on your bed at night.

3) Be sure to contact your electric company immediately, and especially if your health is at risk don’t hesitate to contact emergency personnel. (Note: if you have a cell phone you may want to program the local number to your police department into it. Sometimes when you dial 911 from a cell phone it does not connect you immediately with your local office)

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, don’t be afraid to ask for help, or to prideful accept help if it is offered to you and you need it. Whether we have a disability or not, We all need a little help from time to time.

2. Stir in corn and butter. Mash the mixture with a potato masher until butter is melted and potatoes have reached desired consistency. Mix in cheese, salt, and pepper. Serve hot!

DIRECTIONS:

In a bowl add soups, sour cream, pepper–stir. Add frozen hash browns–stir. Add chopped onions and drained/chopped pimentos–stir. Add cheddar cheese and Swiss cheese–stir. Spray the disposable pan with Pam, and then pour entire potato mixture evenly into the pan. Sprinkle the Parmesan cheese over the top. Place the pan on a cookie sheet to catch drips. Bake uncovered at 375 degrees for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes or until bubbling and golden brown–make sure you use the cookie sheet to pick it up out of the oven because the throwaway pans are flimsy.

INGREDIENTS:

1 pound baby red or white potatoes
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon garlic, minced or pressed

1. Steam potatoes until tender (about twenty minutes).

2. Saute garlic in olive oil for a minute or two, then add rosemary and saute another minute.

3. Toss drained potatoes in garlic mixture. Season with salt and pepper and serve.

Loans

During the forum, the President made known that during the Gawad Saka Awards in Manila the government has given out its 150th billion loan from Land Bank of the Philippines to the farmers.

For rice, services such as low interest loans for farm inputs and other farm infra/machineries and Land Bank of the Philippines loan windows for inbred and hybrid rice production shall be made available.

Dryers

In the FIELDS program, one critical component is the post harvest facilities. The DA-Bureau of Postharvest Research and Extension shall provide for 1,504 units of flatbed dryers and about 58 units of mechanical dryers with biomass furnace through the DA-National Food Authority and another 58 units for retrofitting all over the country.

Seeds

A total amount of Php 9.2 billion shall be allocated fro hybrid and certified seed production and subsidies until year 2010; Php 6.5 billion for the use of certified seeds and Php 2.7 billion for hybrid seeds.

“We need seeds that are flood-resistant and dry spell-resistant due to climate change,” President Arroyo told the farmers present in the forum.

“We are very much blessed here in Bago. Our irrigation system which is one of the most important component in our rice production was rehabilitated. We are hopeful that the FIELDS program of the administration can address rice self sufficiency program of the country,” farmer Carlos Torres told the President during an interaction.
